Healthy Start Network : What we do

How do we reach families?
We want to reach as many families as possible. Most families attend the routine health check-ups for pregnant women and for children. Appointments with health professionals are ideal opportunities to bring across our key messages around diet, physical activity and lifestyle. That is why all those who regularly are in contact with pregnant women and young families are united in the network.

Support from many
Because of their regular contact with expectant parents and young families, gynecologists, midwives and paediatricians are in a key position to give advice and information on diet, physical activity and lifestyle. Parents place a lot of trust in them. Every professional who is in close contact with young families can support parents according to their needs. The network makes sure, that there are uniform recommendations and materials based on them to pass on.

So that parents can make informed choices
Conflicting information is confusing. We want to make sure that parents get uniform key messages on the things that matter to them: the health and wellbeing of their child and the family. Therefore we develop and disseminate nationwide recommendations on nutrition and physical activity both in infants and young children and during pregnancy. The recommendations are based on the latest scientific knowledge.

How are the key messages transferred to the families?
We offer face-to-face trainings for health professionals and have recently added webinars to make our trainings even more accessible. We provide a wide range of materials to pass on to parents and to use during medical examinations, conversations or group sessions. On top of that, we make sure that our messages have a wide audience and reach everyone who is working towards healthier families including, of course, the families themselves.
